SUMMARY:Higher Virasoro algebras
DESCRIPTION:Geometry and Mathematical Physics Seminar \nSpeaker: Brian Williams\, Boston University \nTitle: Higher Virasoro algebras \nAbstract: I will introduce and classify central extensions of the dg Lie algebra of derived global sections of the tangent sheaf on the punctured d-disk for d > 1. Then\, I will formulate and sketch the proof of a formal and universal version of the Grothendieck–Riemann–Roch theorem. Time permitting I will discuss how to generalize this work to complements of other algebraic subvarities of affine space. This is joint work with Zhengping Gui.

SUMMARY:Why do Feynman integrals know Calabi-Yau geometry?
DESCRIPTION:Geometry and Mathematical Physics Seminar \nSpeaker: Chuck Doran\, CMSA & University of Alberta \nTitle: Why do Feynman integrals know Calabi-Yau geometry? \nAbstract: Feynman integrals provide a rich source of Calabi-Yau geometry\, but the geometric origin of these structures is often obscure. I will describe a simple point of view that begins with two-dimensional examples and leads naturally to moduli problems for vectors and polyhedra in three dimensions. I will discuss recent results for tetrahedral moduli and some new phenomena for pentahedral geometry that point toward a broader geometric framework for the Calabi-Yau structures appearing in Feynman integrals. \n
